Reconnecting
For many of our learners without access to computer technology or Internet, the almost overnight closure of library facilities and community centres forced a sudden disconnection from family, friends and the world around them. To support our community with reconnecting to the world, the Lifelong Learning Centre offers a free Internet Cafe, Monday to Friday 9AM to 3PM in the rear annex of our office. 4 community members can access thirty minutes of computer service at a time to send emails, check social media or simply enjoy some leisure during these complicated times.
informing
Staff and volunteers will be onsite to support access to digital technology, including laptops and web cameras in a safe and regularly sanitized environment. This service strives to promote access to reliable information sources, help connect with service providers or medical staff and combat many of the rumours circulating in our community during this crisis.
Health
Entrance to our Internet Cafe is free, coming only at the cost of cleaning ones hands in our outdoor hand washing station. A community initiative, this sink provides our visitors a chance to wash properly and thoroughly in an open air sink prior to accessing our computer stations. The sink remains open to all during our Internet cafe hours.
safety
Our program adheres strictly to guidelines laid down by public health, including regular sanitization of work stations, hand washing regimens and 9 feet of distance between our computer stations. All interested attendees will be screened prior to entrance and directed to contact 811 and denied entry if required for the safety of others.
Our Internet Cafe is designed as a part of our agency’s crisis response. Our staff are working hard on new innovations to our programming to meet individual and community needs during this time. Other services available on site at our office include access to outdoor phone charging and a free public phone (outdoors). All interested community members are welcome to attend our services, however we remind you that required distance of 2 meters between individuals must be maintained at all times.
